[It may or may not have been a good thing Mako couldn't see her face just then, because when he mentioned Kite, a dark shadow passed over her eyes. Almost eerily so.]

Don't even get me started on Kite. We have a history too.

[It wasn't even close to being a pleasant one.]

I don't really know all that much about the other two aside from roughly who they are and what they do, though. They're not quite as...shall we say visible as Kite's been.

[he didn't need to see her face to know that asking about Kite was probably just going to upset Zatanna. Luckily, he'd heard all he really needed to know about Kite.]

I heard no one's seen Su Geming in awhile. [he pauses after that statement, weighing what he wanted to really pursue with this line of questioning.] And that he wasn't as bad as Kite.

That's not really saying much...but, yeah, you're right about him up and vanishing. Probably got fired or something.

I don't remember hearing any announcement? If he said anything, then it was during one of his long-winded rants I try not to pay attention to.

All I know is that the Matilda chick's been showing up more and more. Like that time shortly after the maze...

It's not just the higher-ups. There are people here, trapped like us, who've inexplicably decided they were in the mood for being traitorous jerks and signed up. For the life of me, I still can't figure out why.

He could think of a few reasons why someone would consider it... But he was getting the feeling that his opinions on it wouldn't be appreciated. So he responded with a more lame,]

But those guys come and go more easily, the higher-ups are here no matter what. So figuring out their numbers is probably going to be the easier, more useful task.

[No. They definitely wouldn't. Considering, at one point, she'd actually been on relatively neutral terms with a Yao lackey. Friendship would have been an overstatement, but they could exchange words without her wanting to punch his face. And then he tried to kill her, for no other reason than Yao told him to.]

I'm still not even sure why they would give us phones, but I'm glad they did. Since not all of us have superhearing.

Oh, trust me, I get it. My b-- [She caught herself before the word had even made it out. It had been so natural to say, up until a short time ago. But now...it just didn't seem right.] ...a friend from home could hack into pretty much anything.

But safe or no, you have to admit, they're pretty good for getting in touch with someone quickly. Better than doing it the old fashioned way.

[To be fair, in almost any other situation, it would have been hilarious. Nobody got hurt. Not even Conner's shirts. And both Kon and Zee were still convinced it had been for a good cause: getting Conner into more Kon-like colorful shirts.]

Look...whatever the time difference between you two...as long as you're still friends, it'll work out. Trust me. Conner and I come from five years apart, and if anything, I think we're closer now than we were back home.

[Completely ignoring the part where they might not still be friends in either of their times. Or the fact that she and Conner had gotten extremely lucky. Or...really...any other situation that involved things going less than casually.]
